We have recently completed some valuable training at the school for emergency preparedness. Staff has been trained on the Standard Response Protocol, we’ve had a lockout/lockdown drill, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Department completed confrontational simulation drills. I want to personally thank the Polk County Sheriff’s Department for the opportunity to participate in their training as a way to witness what we, as a school, can improve on to increase school safety. We are being proactive in preparing for an emergency situation at the school and want to provide the safest environment possible for the students at Perrydale School.
Kindergarten Registration will be on Saturday, April 28th, from 10:00 AM -12:00 PM, for all
in-district students. All school districts in Polk County will have their registration on the
same date. Central High School will be hosting an event for students of all ages and their
families on April 28th. The event is called Fam Jam and we invite all students to participate. Any Kindergarten student that registers on the 28th can go to the Fam Jam event and receive a free backpack full of new school supplies. Fam Jam will run from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM at Central High School.
Students will be taking the Smarter Balanced and OAKS assessments again this spring.
As a reminder, a notification letter/form was sent last month detailing the parents’ rights to
withdraw their student from the SBAC tests for Math and English/Language Arts for grades
3-8 and 11. As a school, we suggest you allow your students to participate in testing due
to the valuable data we collect from the assessments. This data helps us provide better
instruction for all students and information for interventions a student may need for success. Students may not opt–out of the Science and Social Science OAKS assessments except for certain circumstances. Contact me if you have any questions regarding the assessments.
Spring is here and the end of the school year will be upon us quickly. Remember to come
out to the various activities planned at the school. The students would love your support.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
The Perrydale Library will host a Scholastic Book Fair the Week of April 23rd. The book
fair will run on Tuesday, April 24th and Thursday, April 26th at lunch and after school. The
book fair provides new books for our school library, so please come and check it out.
Our student athletes had a quick transition from the hardcourt to the ball fields and track. After a successful basketball season for our Pirate basketball teams, our attention has now shifted to our spring sports. Spring in Oregon never makes it easy to schedule athletic events, but we truly appreciate those sporadic days of sunshine when we can get all of our athletes involved in competition.
Our track athletes are off and running (I know—lame joke) early on in this spring season. They have been competing for three weeks now and we already have a few school records that have been broken. Coach Evans has a dedicated group of students who love competing in track and field. We believe we have athletes on this team who can contend for league and state titles. Please come cheer on the Perrydale Track & Field Team this season. They would love your support!
Our high school baseball and softball teams have shown early improvement from a year ago and
won some early season non-league games before heading into the meat of their season. Strong
competition awaits them in the always-difficult Tri-River Conference. Our teams are coached by some seasoned vets who will diligently work with our student athletes to help them improve individually.
Our high school baseball team welcomes David Shultz to head the program after a long coaching stint at Blanchet, where he is a science teacher. Coach Shultz is a welcome addition to our school and we are thankful he chose to be a Pirate.
Our middle school programs began practicing before spring break and have just begun their league play. We have a dozen boys and 18 girls who will be representing our school and community in a league full of 2A and 3A schools. Our middle school ladies will be led by Coach Kathy once again and our boys will be led by Coach Ford, who happens to be one of our middle school teachers. Both teams have coaches who have a passion for the sport and are always looking for ways for our athletes to improve and enjoy the game.
We hope to see you at some games this spring and GO PIRATES!!!
